Mackay Barista Jam (The Beginning)

Finally we in the northern regional center of Mackay are putting together some evenings when like minded Baristi can get together compare notes and techniques to improve the standard of espresso production in the town. The first of these evenings will be held at Cafe La De Da on Tuesday the 6th of October commencing at approx 5:30pm, we are asking everyone to give $5 on entry from which we will buy pizza and pay for coffee beans and milk supplied by John with the remainder of the pot going to the best Latte Art for the evening.

I will also be bringing along some single origin beans for everyone to try using a different brewing method called the coffee syphon.

  1. Thanks for the help with the set up Steve.
I love working with sharp people.

We've also had some interest from some coffee addicts who want to come along next tuesday night, and pay $5 to help fatten the pot, and to help us out by drinking the results of the Barista Jam.

Some are even pondering the idea of running a parallel group, along the lines of a coffee drinking supporters organisation. Perhaps we can find people who may want to learn about competition judging, from this group.

  2. Merryn is keen on becoming an AASCA judge, we just have to find out what courses need to be done, specifically sensory judging which is along the same lines as wine judging.

  3. Well tonight was the first night for the Barista Jam at Cafe La De Da. I went along with quite a few others from other cafes and had lots of fun and learnt alot aswell. Hopefully these new found skills will improve my coffee making and latte art.
