Barista Jam 1 (6 October 2009)

As per usual myself and Merryn arrive late, (had to close our stores) arrived at about 6:15pm and everyone was well and trully into their espresso and latte art. Quite a good turn out for the first, of what we hope will be many, barista jams in Mackay. There were about 10 or so Baristi and 6 or so caffiene addicts waiting to try our labour of love. There was some quite good art produced with a very good base for us to work from for future jam's.

I also bought along some single origin coffees for everyone to sample, brewed through a coffee syphon, which seemed to interest everyone that was present. The 2 single origins that I bought to the evening was an Ethiopian Limu and Costa Rica Herbazu Estate, with the Costa Rican getting the thumbs up from the crowd that sampled the brews.

Then it was down to the latte art competition with our judges deliberating intensely over some very good espresso coffees with Kylie Burow from Gloria Jean's finishing a close runner up behind Merryn Ward from Gloria Jean's.

So we all finished our pizza, did the dishes and called it quits for the evening. I am very much looking forward to the next meet which will be in approx 1 month, will notify everyone as soon as a date is announced.

A big shout out to John and his team from Cafe La De Da for providing the venue, equipt and Di Bella coffee for the event.

  1. I liked that it was fun and friendly.
I loved watching people stretching and growing.
Every single person there, saw, heard, or learnt something new.

    I can't wait to see Nicole's report.

Where else in Mackay, on a tuesday night, from 5.30 to 7pm can you have that much fun for $5?

Any reason we cant do it every month on the first tues?

  3. See, now I want to be a barista so I can join in the fun!
Seriously, it seems a good venture and I give a thumbs up to anything that promotes good coffee.
